Kevin Cummins
One of the world’s most esteemed photographers, Cummins honed his skills over four years before immersing himself in Manchester’s thriving punk scene of the 1970s. Over the following decades, he captured iconic images of Joy Division, took live shots and portraits of David Bowie, and created a legendary NME cover featuring The Stone Roses. For more than twenty years, his work for New Musical Express celebrated the emergence of the Manchester and Cool Britannia scenes. To date, he has published 14 critically acclaimed monographs, including While We Were Getting High: Brit Pop and the ’90s, Joy Division: Juvenes, Telling Stories: Photographs of The Fall, and David Bowie: Mixing Memory & Desire. Cummins’ photographs have graced magazine covers, been showcased in art galleries and international films, and are part of esteemed collections at The National Portrait Gallery and the V&A, among other institutions.
