“Someday a real rain will wash the scum off the streets” Robert DeNiro/Taxi Driver by Louis Sidoli
About this piece: This is inspired by one of the most iconic films of all time – Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver” from 1976. The print incorporates Robert De Niro’s actual taxi driver licence he obtained whilst training as a taxi driver in preparation for the film. It also features a 1970’s vintage map of midtown Manhattan with a New York skyline where it was filmed on location. The neon lights are formed in the shape of a classic Checker Cab as featured in the film that is morphed into the shape of a handgun.
Louis’ Neon Art & Originals: Artist Statement:
“I was the first artist to combine portraiture with neon art. The inspiration came from both Andy Warhol’s 1970’s / 80’s ‘celebrity portraits’ and the work of neon artists such as Dan Flavin, Tracey Emin and Chris Bracey”.
