About this piece: Audrey Hepburn is photographed in the Roman countryside during the filming of War and Peace, in August of 1955. The film would see Hepburn nominated for a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and New York Film Critics Circle Award for her performance as Natasha.
For over four decades, Milton H. Greene (1922-1985) made his mark as one of the most celebrated photographers in the world. Greene created a vast body of work, comprising images of our most beloved artists, musicians, and theatrical celebrities. His photography traced the passage of an era, highlighting the best in Hollywood and fashion. Greene was one of the earliest and best-known artists working in the early days of colour photography. He worked with a plethora of celebrities, from Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Audrey Hepburn, to Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich, Dizzy Gillespie and Judy Garland. His work was showcased in the biggest publications of the time, including Vogue, Life, Look, Town & Country and Harper’s Bazaar.
