About this piece: Muhammad Ali poses for a photo at his training camp cabin in Deer Lake, Pennsylvania on January 9, 1974. Nicknamed “The Greatest”, Ali is widely regarded as one of the most significant and celebrated sports figures of the 20th century and is frequently ranked as the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time.
Neil Leifer is an American photographer, author and filmmaker. Perhaps best known for having documented his favorite subject, Muhammad Ali, Leifer captured photos of the up-and-coming boxer – then named Cassius Clay – through his rise to superstardom. In 2014, Leifer became the only photographer to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
