Pure Evil
Charles Uzzell Edwards, also known as Pure Evil, was born in South Wales in 1968. Influenced by his father, Welsh painter John Uzzell Edwards, he embraced various artistic movements like Cubism and Minimalism.
After studying graphics and fashion in London, Pure Evil moved to California in the 1990s. In San Francisco, he worked for Anarchic Adjustment as a designer, created t-shirt graphics, and engaged in the West Coast rave scene. He also DJed and recorded ambient electronic music for Pete Namlook’s label, FAX.
Returning to London, he connected with Banksy’s “Santa’s Ghetto” and created prints for Pictures on Walls. When the U.S. denied his re-entry, he set up a studio in Wales and focused on collaging and stencils. He later moved back to London, preparing for his first Pure Evil exhibition in 2006. His solo exhibit, curated by DK Johnston, channeled Andy Warhol, creating a body of work rooted in repetition art. Besides visual art, Pure Evil has also been involved in various music projects, most notably, a collaboration with famed electronic music producer and composer Pete Namlook. The artist now lives and works in London.
